Use herbs this winter

As you may have noticed, many over-the-counter products available for winter colds and ailments have a herbal component. We have a fantastic store cupboard of Western herbs available to combat many symptoms and ease your way back to health. The advantage of accessing these through a herbalist is the unique range of prescriptions that they have access to. Cough syrups with minimum ingredients and using herbs like Licorice, Thyme, Elderberry and Wild Cherry, not only taste great but act both as expectorants – so releasing congestion – and give an anti-bacterial hit. Mouth washes, which can then be swallowed for extra benefit, are also an excellent tool at our disposal to soothe and heal mucus membranes. Creams and ointments for dry skin, and herbal vapour rubs, complete the picture.

But wider than this is the scope of herbal medicine to address those times when you know your immune system is not up to scratch; when you get cold after cold for the entire winter. That’s when the advantages of taking a step back and looking holistically at a person’s health is invaluable. By looking at all the body systems and thinking about how they interact, we can work with immune-system-enhancing herbs, called adaptogens, which help the body step up to the stresses faced. These can be coupled with targeted symptomatic herbal relief to complete the picture. It’s this type of approach that focuses on prevention as well as cure that makes such sense, rather than just fire-fighting symptoms all the time.

Come along to the Linden Herbal Winter Clinic to find out more and register to have access to high quality, good value herbal products that can only be obtained via your herbalist.

What is Chiropractic Therapy?

Chiropractic was developed in the U.S.A. in the late 1800’s and is primarily focused on allowing free flowing communication through the body’s nervous system to help the body to be free of ”dis - ease”. This is attained by removing imbalances in joint structures of the body with particular focus on the spine but also working with all other joints and soft tissue.

McTimoney Chiropractic is a holistic form of Chiropractic where the whole body is assessed and areas of dysfunction or imbalance are treated. Relying on speed rather than force the treatment is relatively gentle to receive, not usually resulting in the ‘cracking’ of a joint often associated with Chiropractic.

As a new patient you will undergo a comprehensive case history with a full Chiropractic explanation followed by neurological and orthopaedic testing to arrive at a diagnosis and then treatment if appropriate.

Treatment is a process to allow unwinding of the compensations around the body to get to the root causes of “dis - ease”. This typically takes 2 to 4 sessions but can depend on many individual factors and many people find benefit from maintenance treatment. Chiropractic can help with a wide range of musculo-skeletal problems.

If you are interested Gareth will be offering free 10 minute spinal checks and postural assessments at The Therapy Room on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30 on November 11th and 25th 2014. please contact The Therapy Room on 01223 315400 to book an appointment.

Video Explaining The Integrated Health Approach Of The Therapy Room Cambridge

Video Transcript

The Therapy Room Cambridge offers a wide choice of therapist and therapy, in order to provide as many options as possible for our clients and patients. For those who know who they would like to see, or what therapy they would like, we can usually provide them with a good match.
This is not uncommon for many Complementary health clinics, but what we found was missing was
a service that helps people who know something is wrong but either don't know what therapy to try, have tried every therapy or have been through their GP, every specialist, and are being 'managed' by the pain clinic or are on multiple medications.

For these people we designed Integrated Health Consultancy - this incorporates an in depth investigation of health history, symptom diet, lifestyle, physical assessment, medical records, along with a 'listening empathetic ear'. From the information gathered our IHC's will provide an initial report, with recommendations for further testing (if needed), along with a treatment plan, involving specific therapists, taking into consideration, budget and time constraints.
The IHC, is a point of contact where the person can call to discuss their treatment, and the treating therapists can liaise.

Working with Damien, the Integrated Health Consultant and Carolyn a Homeopath at the The Therapy Room Cambridge has been absolutely amazing.
After a few years of struggling with chronic fatigue, pain and multiple symptoms I really felt at
the end of my tether.
My GP had been no help and had made me feel like i was a nuisance and I no longer had any
confidence in them.

Damien and Carolyn were the first people I spoke to who actually recognised and understood the
symptoms I was suffering - what a relief!
Not only that but they were able to help me understand what these symptoms meant and put in place
a plan to deal with them.

There was no one thing that caused my illness so it stands to reason that there would be no one
thing that put it right.  Working with a number of therapists from different backgrounds gave me
the holistic approach I needed.

The support they have provided to me both in the clinic and between appointments has been a vital part of my recovery.  I'm still not quite there but my health is now the best it has been for a
few years and I understand what is happening in my body so much better.  This means that I can be more responsible for my own health and I'm in a position to make decisions about what is best for me.  I know that I can call on them anytime that I need them as I continue on my road to recovery.
